Did you loose Jesus?

Luke 2:41-52 Boy Jesus in the Temple

Now every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Assuming that he was in the group of travelers, they went a day’s journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, ‘Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in great anxiety.’ He said to them, ‘Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’ But they did not understand what he said to them. Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favor.

And how about for you? Over the last two weeks, did you lose Jesus amid all the holiday celebrations? With all the extra activities and festivities that it can be very easy to lose sight of the “reason for the season.” A short trip to a crowded mall, or long lines returning gifts can make anyone fall out of the “Christmas Spirit” in a hurry.

Perhaps that’s why we need this story, to remind us that when life gets busy, we know where to find Jesus. That when life creates anxiety for us, we know where to find the Christ Child. When life gets frantic and we find ourselves searching for the true meaning of Christmas, we know where to find it – in the Lord’s house and in scripture. In the faithful community that gathers around word and sacraments – we know where to find God’s love that has come to us in Jesus Christ. In here we clear out the chaos and the anxiety so that you can ask questions and explore your faith free from the chaos and anxiety of the world around us. For lives that are anxiously looking for Jesus, know that Christ can be found here.

...

For the world has not lost hope, but indeed is finding it. For what was once lost, has now been found by the incredible love a Savior; Immanuel, God with us. From this moment on, we are never alone, we are never lost. God has found us in Christ Jesus our Lord. May we continue to grow in maturity in this Spirit of Christmas now and always.
